ATTENTION CHRISTIANS: Are you tired of the corrupting influences of our modern world? Tired of sex, violence, greed, materialism, and Christian values being trashed? Then YOU need to do something about it!

REJECT THE EVIL THINGS OF THIS WORLD!

Christians can't complain about the disgusting things on television if we watch these shows ourselves. We can't complain about sex, violence, and God's name used in vain in movies if we pay to see them and then just ignore these sins as we sit in the theaters. Is it any wonder that Christian values are being ridiculed and ignored when the 80% of Americans that call themselves Christians stand by and let it happen?

Are we afraid of being ridiculed ourselves? Do we accept these things in order to fit in? If so, then we are ignoring what the Bible tells us!

But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. -- 1 Peter 4:16-17

Don't love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love isn't in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's. The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God's will remains forever. -- 1 John 2:15-17

If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. -- John 15:19

This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments. One who says, 'I know him' and doesn't keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn't in him. -- 1 John 2:3-4

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. -- 2 Timothy 3:12

They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work. -- Titus 1:16

You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. -- James 4:4

We can change what we see on television, in the movies, magazines, books, and the way our culture behaves if we stop supporting evil with the money God gave us and with our own behavior.

Christians need to live the way we say the Bible tells us to. Otherwise, we are the hypocrites that everyone accuses us of being. And our hypocrisy can keep other people from wanting to find out about Jesus.

This is not about changing the behavior of unbelievers. This is about changing the behavior of Christians who have embraced the wicked things of this world.

Reject these things and live the way God has commanded us to live:

  • Television, Moves, Video Games, Music, Magazines, Books, Web Sites, Pop Culture
    • Reject sex, graphic violence, and blasphemy in all media.
    • When you're watching a T.V. show that uses God's name in vain (Oh my 'G'-'o'-'d'), turn the channel. Don't support these things.
    • Don't drink to drunkenness or use drugs or narcotics. Getting intoxicated with chemicals is the same as drunkenness.
    • 1 Corinthians 6:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 2 Timothy 3:1-5; Exodus 20:7; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Peter 4:3-5; Matthew 5:28
  • Materialism, Greed, Money
    • Don't buy things you don't need. Don't buy things to show others how much money you have.
    • Share the material blessing that God has given you with others.
    • Give to the poor; buy blankets, socks, jackets, and food for those in need.
    • Don't put money and career above God or your family.
    • 1 John 3:17-18; Philippians 2:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; 1 Timothy 6:17-19; Hebrews 13:5-6
  • Selfishness, Self-Centered, Boastfulness, Arrogance
    • Think of others before yourself.
    • Think of how your behavior will affect others rather than just doing what pleases you.
    • Don't boast or draw attention to yourself. Every good thing comes from God, not from our own abilities.
    • 1 Corinthians 10:24; 1 Corinthians 13:4-5; Romans 3:11-12; 2 Corinthians 5:15; 2 Corinthians 10:17-18; James 4:10
  • Foul Language, Dirty Jokes, Criticism, Gossip, Lying
    • Don't use foul language, it reveals what's in your heart.
    • Don't tell or listen to dirty jokes; walk away when others are telling them.
    • Don't criticize or gossip about others.
    • Ephesians 4:29; Ephesians 5:3-4; Philippians 2:14-15; Colossians 3:9; 2 Corinthians 12:20; James 3:5-12; Matthew 15:18-19
  • Anger, Hatred, Grudges, Unforgiveness, Divorce
    • Jesus says that anyone who hates has committed murder in his heart.
    • If you have a conflict with someone, settle before the day ends.
    • Forgive others the way God has forgiven us. Jesus said if we don't forgive others, then we will not be forgiven.
    • Do not divorce for irreconcilable differences.
    • Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 4:26; Colossians 3:8; 2 Timothy 2:23-26; James 4:11-12; James 5:19-20; Matthew 19:4-9; 1 Corinthians 7:10-11; Mark 11:25-26; Matthew 6:14-15; Matthew 5:21-26
  • Secularism, Anti-Christian Values, Religious Freedom Violations
    • Don't let Christian values be undermined.
    • Don't let governments, schools, or employers take away your right to talk about God.
    • Don't let your children be indoctrinated into the moral relativism of our culture.
    • 1 Corinthians 15:33; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Colossians 2:8; 2 Timothy 1:7-10; 2 Timothy 4:2-5; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Ephesians 6:1-4; Matthew 28:19-20; Matthew 10:32-33
